Windows Updates not updating!

Have you ever had failed updates on your windows machine.. I recently ran into this issue on a users laptop and for the life of me couldnt figure out how to get passed it. After lots of trial and error I came across a few things that I think might work and that have proven to work in my case.

1. Run Microsoft Fix it.
This will do all the work for you if your lucky. Microsoft has built this tool to apply patches to known errors on windows devices. In many instances this has worked for me however in some instances I haven't been so lucky.

2. Create a new WindowsUpdate.Bat file
Open up notepad. Copy and paste the commands below in bold and save them as WindowsUpdate.Bat
If you did this correctly the icon will change from a Notepad file to BAT file and you will notice an Icon change
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\vbscript.dll /s
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\mshtml.dll /s
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\msjava.dll /s
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\jscript.dll /s
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\msxml.dll /s
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\actxprxy.dll /s
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\shdocvw.dll /s
regsvr32 wuapi.dll /s
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll /s
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll /s
regsvr32 wucltui.dll /s
regsvr32 wups2.dll /s
regsvr32 wups.dll /s
regsvr32 wuweb.dll /s
regsvr32 Softpub.dll /s
regsvr32 Mssip32.dll /s
regsvr32 Initpki.dll /s
regsvr32 softpub.dll /s
regsvr32 wintrust.dll /s
regsvr32 initpki.dll /s
regsvr32 dssenh.dll /s
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll /s
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll /s
regsvr32 sccbase.dll /s
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll /s
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll /s
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll /s
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll /s
regsvr32 Msjava.dll /s
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll /s
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll /s
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll /s
regsvr32 msxml.dll /s
regsvr32 msxml2.dll /s
regsvr32 msxml3.dll /s
regsvr32 Browseui.dll /s
regsvr32 shell32.dll /s
regsvr32 wuapi.dll /s
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll /s
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll /s
regsvr32 wucltui.dll /s
regsvr32 wups.dll /s
regsvr32 wuweb.dll /s
regsvr32 jscript.dll /s
regsvr32 atl.dll /s
regsvr32 Mssip32.dll /s

From there run the script and restart

3. Open the CMD Prompt and run these commands
net stop wuauserv
net start wuauserv

This is a manual jump start so to speak of the windows updates. From here try and run the updates. In my experience this gets the updates to download and install..

Good luck
